As [info]cadmus and others have pointed out, Sup has laid off almost all of the Live Journal staff, including the entire engineering team.

Now is probably a good time to back up your content!

Interesting times, interesting times....

Good News: my manager at CBSi/CNET has approval to bring me back on.
Bad News: the contract doesn't start until after the holidays.

Good News: I have an interview on Monday for a full-time, salaried position.
Bad News: if hired, I wouldn't start until after the holidays.

Good News: I've got rent for December.
Bad News: I'll have maybe $200 left. That's before bills.

It's going to be a long month...

They literally tore down the doors and trampled the employee to death.

Interestingly, Valley Stream is, according to Wikipedia, a very white, upper-middle class neighborhood, with a median income above 100k. Not a demographic you'd expect to bum-rush a Walmart.

I wish we could get a demographic makeup of the actual customers involved, find out if they were local or from outside the area.

So our Dear Leader has HRC on his short list for Secretary of State.

Yeah, real change.

Can I have the next stop please?

From Forbes:

"Banks are modeling losses on credit cards next year at 7%, but I can see them higher as unemployment rises. Consumers are using credit cards to eat in McDonald's, not exactly a felicitous leading indicator for credit card issuers."

So apparently CBS/CNET has not paid the agency that handles my 1099 contract, which explains why my check didn't arrive yesterday as expected.

In the 1099 world, you don't get paid until the agency gets paid.

Trying to decide if I should finish out next week as planned, or just cut my losses now and spend the time finding a new gig.

From the NY Times:

"Supporters of same-sex marriage in California, where the fight on Tuesday was fiercest, appeared to have been outflanked by the measure’s highly organized backers and, exit polls indicated, hurt by the large turnout among black and Hispanic voters drawn to Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy. Mr. Obama opposes same-sex marriage."

Obama's choice of Rahm Emanuel brings to mind Robert Greene's 26th law of power, and Machiavelli's story of Borgia and d'Orco.

Watch and learn.

I find it curious that in conservative backwaters like South Dakota women can freely kill their unwanted, unborn children, yet in California same-sex couples are constitutionally denied the privilege of marriage.

Received notice Monday that my contract with CBS/CNET is being terminated 11/14 due to budgetary manipulations triggered by poor third quarter financials.

This one hurts, as the project I'm on should have provided the regular economic stability I need for the current phase of my Work, well into next summer.

Now to analyze the meaning of this resistance and determine a new course of action.

I just accepted a contract from CNET/CBS Interactive.

It's been a nice three week vacation...

After taking a week and a few days off to rest and relax, I updated my resume and started farming Craigslist.

I resume I submitted this morning resulted in a call back this afternoon. End result: a recommendation to the Portland office to call me in for a live interview.

It's a 3-6 month contract, which is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for right now. Long enough to keep me currently afloat, short enough to not be utter hell if I can't stand the place. And it's downtown, which means easy commuting.

On a second front, my resume is being passed around the Seattle area by my contacts there.

A good start. Now for some more responses and thus more options.

Biden is douchebag - in terms of both foreign and domestic policy.

This is the DNC's version of Bush/Cheney: a charismatic but weak president backed by a powerful beltway insider.

Plenty of 'hope' and 'change' coming soon!

Chumps.

I gave notice today here at IMC. Last day is the 29th. No real plans, just can't stand to be here anymore. I'm going to chill for a couple of weeks and try and figure some stuff out.

Then panic.

Has anyone I know ever lived in Texas, Dallas specifically?

What was it like to live and work there?

Sorry for all the annoying Tweets. I rarely look at my own entry page unless I'm actually posting something. Thus, I didn't realize that LoudTweeter was posting nonsense every fricking day...

That annoyance has been taken care of.
